lexemes with more than one POS

Posted by obah at 2010-08-22 04:20

Hi!
Please, does anybody know how to add a second part of speech for the same lexeme, for example one lexeme that is an adverb and a preposition.
Regards.

In the wordlist, first switch to the Structure View (its just above the word list). Then select the parent element of POS and Add Feature. Now select the POS element from the list. This will add a second POS element to the entry.
Usually Pos is element of a group, in which case you would first have to add the group.
Its described in section 2.3.3 of the Manual.
This is actually the problem: I have grouped the POS together with Lexeme in the LexicalEntry data component which is the top level in the hierarchy. When LexicalEntry is selected in the list view, Add feature does'nt allow me to add LexicalEntry.

Sure, you cannot add a lexical entry within a lexical entry, so in order to get two lexical entries, you need to make a new one from the wordlist.
It seem then that your PoS is not well positioned in the structure:
I propose:
TOP: Lexical Entry
with element lexeme
LEVEL 1 (under LE): POSGroup
with element Part of Speech
and with LEVEL2: SenseGroup

Would this work?

Thank you, I have tried that solution but after modifying an entry and trying to add a new POS within the same entry, I get an alert message (Alert with an exclamation mark) and afterwards a messy entry. I think there is a problem with the database. Regards.
