No player for .wav file on Mac

Posted by hasloe at 2012-02-07 10:21

A problem has been reported when trying to create a new transcription with just a wav file.
In the log file the following messages were found:

...
WARNING: Invalid movie: format not supported
...
quicktime.std.StdQTException[QTJava:7.6.6g],-208=badFileFormat,QT.vers:7668000
...
bext header found - ignoring contents...

It appears that the wave file was encoded in an extended WAVE format: Broadcast Wave Format (BWF), which is not supported by all players. Opening it in iTunes and saving it again as (standard) WAVE file solved the problem.

The recording was made by a Marantz PMD661 recorder, which apparently (sometimes?) encodes in BWF.
