Play selection not working

When a selection is made in an ELAN file, it is impossible to play only that selection (either by play button or SHFT-space). Normal playing does work. Anyone who knows what to do about this?

In this particular case it appeared to be caused by codecs used to play the media files. Switching to the default Java - DirectShow player solved this issue.
