Problem opening edited .eaf-files

Hi,
we have tried to edit the linguistic type references in an .eaf-file using a perl script with regExps, but we cannot open the edited file in ELAN and there is no error message. There are no differences (other than the edited type references) between the original file and the edited file.
The .eaf-files were created on Mac, and the editing on Linux - might that be a problem?
