no player could be created MAC
Hello, I have a Mac OS X 10.7 Lion and when I want to open a file (mpg, wav, mov) in ELAN (4.1.1) it says "no player could be created for [an the name of the file I want to open] I saw that other people posted the same problem, but I couldn“t find an answer for the problem. What should I do?
Thank you very much,
Florencia
Re: no player could be created MAC
Yes, there have been some similar reports, but so far no definite cause has been found. It's not just the version of the OS or the type of files used.
We can have a look at the log file to see if there are error messages that shed light on the problem. If the menu is still functional after you got the "no player" message, you can choose View->View Log... Select all and copy/paste to this forum or send per email to us (han.sloetjes AT mpi.nl).
If the menu is not functional than the file can be found in <user_home>/Library/Preferences/ELAN/elan0.log (or elan1.log etc., look at the timestamp).

Re: Re: no player could be created MAC
Hi there,
I have a macbook pro running os 10.6.8, and I had the same problem.
Here is my solution:
This: http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html (see under "Snow Leopard and MPEG-2 Playback Component") made me suspect that my quicktime mpeg-2 component disappearing after upgrading my OS to snow leopard might be the problem. (Because my videos were indeed mpeg-2 encoded). And lo and behold, the problem disappeared when I converted my video files to mpeg-1. (You can do this using ffmpegX).
I hope this helps :-)
By the way, another problem I had was that my wav waveform didn't render. This is not strictly relevant here, but that turned out to be an encoding issue as well. Once I converted my extracted wav file from 32 to 16 bit pcm (Windows wav format), the waveform showed up. That conversion I did in Audacity.
Best regards,
Philip
