How do I insert a tilde above an IPA symbol?

Posted by jmarquis at 2011-10-06 12:39

Hello,

I would like to insert a tilde above an IPA symbol (Transcription Mode), I am able to insert other diacritics, but have been unable to locate this one. Any ideas/suggestions?

Also, is it possible reformat an IPA symbol in subscript?

I am using Elan v4.1.1 with Win7.

Thanks,

yan.

If it were in annotation mode you could (temporarily) switch to the "IPA extended" input method (in the right mouse button popup menu) and enter the sequence "]eu". I don't know how you insert the other diacritics but since the tilde above doesn't seem to have a "Alt+...." key combination, you could select it in Character Map, copy it and paste it whenever you need it (not very convenient, I agree).
In ELAN you cannot really use subscript or superscript, so unless a character by definition acts as (a kind of) subscript or superscript, this is not possible.
