Cross platform crash

Posted by rodgardner at 2011-10-05 04:06

We have a group working with PCs and Macs on the same data. When a eaf file has been created on one platform, it crashes when opening in the other. The error message tells us that there is an issue with the libJavaQTMovieView.jnilib plug-in. Can anyone help or explain?

Thanks

Rod

This error indicates that there is a problem in creating a media player for the media file. It has nothing to do with the annotation data as such.
A problem with libJavaQTMovieView.jnilib should only occur on a Mac; it would be interesting to know on what version of Mac OS this is and also if there is more information about the nature of the problem. Does transferring from Mac to PC also lead to crashes?

Thanks for the quick response, Han. The OS on the Mac is 10.6.6, and the problem occurs both with eaf files created on Macs and opened on PCs and vice versa, but all the media files have been created and edited on Macs, the video files with iMovie, and the audio files with Audacity. However, the problem only occurs with the most recent batch of media files I've created. The video compression type is H.264. This may be a different problem, but with earlier sets of eaf files created on Macs, the PC users had to have open one of their own eaf files created on PCs before they could open the Mac created eaf files.
Maybe not relevant, but I've been lining up audio and video starting points before importing to ELAN. I'm not sure, but could easily find out, what the error message is on the PCs.

So, just to be sure I understand the situation correctly, you are saying that it is possible, e.g. on a PC, to create a new annotation file for a certain media file and at the same time it is not possible on that same PC to open an eaf file, based on exactly the same media file, when the eaf has been created on a Mac? (That sounds strange.)

That is what appears to be happening. When we create annotation files on a PC, they can be opened on the PCs but not on Macs, and vice versa, using exactly the same media files.

I have no possible explanation for that.
If you want you may send me one of the PC generated files so that I can open it on my Mac and see if the same problems occur?
