using elan without media files

hello,

I would like to use ELAN for the annotation of data from written text corpora. my question is whether it is possible to annotate written data without a related media file. thank you in advance for your help.

best regards
mh
Not really in a dedicated way. ELAN needs a timeline with a certain duration, which is normally "provided" by the audio or video recording.
Some work has been done to facilitate annotation of images (e.g. .png or .jpg files). A "virtual timeline" is then created, the duration of which can be changed by the user. Something similar is not available for text; the only way to annotate text would thus be to link either a video, audio or an image file and then ignore it while annotating (this is not a recommendation, by the way). In any case, it won't be possible to directly link your annotations to parts of the text and I suppose that will be necessary?
