Putting various colours on annotations?

Posted by yuki at 2011-04-14 09:51

Hi.
I am wondering if there is a way to colours to annotations. It's not to colour the entire tier with one colour.

Does anybody know?

thanks,
Yuki

Hi, I think I have no answers for you, alas, but some interesting questions:

Do you mean custom 'word processing' properties in annotations (e.g. bold, underline, color)? That might be possible if one allows annotations to contain HTML. However, such HTML would override other markup / layout effects which ELAN would normally use when you work with / select / ... annotations.

Or do you mean for example that when using a controlled vocabulary in a tier, you could (manually or randomly) assign for each 'word' of the controlled vocabulary a color, so all annotations with that 'word' as value would have the same color (e.g. background color)? I believe the latter would be useful, but I could not find either in the manual so it is probably not possible (yet?).

Talking about the manual, the highlighting of help-search matches is at the wrong (mostly vertical) position for pages which are 'tall', maybe something about window size versus 'canvas' size in the help display?

Regards, Eric

Dear Eric, Thanks for replying and thanks for your input. What I wanted to do was something similar to what you said below. I didn't think of using controlled vocabulary, so that's an input I appreciate. If the background of same information or actually same kind of information be marked with the same colour (and different ones with different colours), I don't have to look through every information one by one. I also checked the manual (I just searched 'color'), but didn't tell me anything of what I would liked to see, so I wrote in forum hoping that somebody possess a knowledge beyond the manual :) Yuki

Yes, applying a color to an annotation can currently only be achieved by using a controlled vocabulary. The "More Options..." button in the Edit CV window allows you to set a color per entry. This color will then be used by some "viewers" in ELAN as the background color for annotations based on the entry.

Hello,
Is there any way to keep the colours of the controlled vocabulary when importing the tiers to a diferent document?
It does not do it when exporting and then importing preferences.
Thank you!
