To start an annotation document you will have to choose File->New... and then select your video file(s). If you save the new document it will be saved as EAF, which you can open the next time via File->Open...

Hello! I also have trouble to start annotating.
I can open the media file fine (it;s a .mov file), but I don't know where to find the .etf. I have also tried to save the media file as a .eaf (in the same folder as the .mov), but it doesn't allow me to open both files successfully.
