Exporting as Praat TextGrid
Dear developers and users of Elan,<br><br>I noticed a strange thing that happens after exporting Elan files as Praat TextGrid files. The problem in TextGrid file is the first interval of a dependent tier (the tier that was a dependent tier in Elan). At first glance, the boundary between this first interval and the second one is missing. That reflects also in the number of intervals which is given on the right side of TextGrid Editor window: this tier has one interval less than the one it was dependent from in Elan, though in Elan they have the same number of annotations. <br><br>As a result, the corresponding intervals in two tiers have different numbers and different starting point time.<br><br>When I open this converted file in Praat, I cann't mark this first interval, but if I mark the second one (which is counted as the first by Praat), it looks like there is an invisible boundary between them.<br><br>Sorry, maybe it is copletely unclear from my explanation where the problem is, but if you try to export something as a TextGrid you will see what I mean (I hope), or I can send you my Elan files and TextGrids.<br><br>Maybe the important thing is the Stereotype I am using for this dependent tier -- it is symbolic association.<br><br>I hope, somebody else uses this function of Elan and you can share your experience with me.<br><br>Thank you,<br>Natalia<br><br>
Re: Exporting as Praat TextGrid
It appears that there is a bug in the current export to Praat function as a result of which for any tier after the first one, a first (empty) annotation or interval (that is needed to fill in gaps) is not created. This error only occurs on tiers where the first annotation does not start at time point 0 (the beginning of the media). It doesn't seem to matter whether the other tiers are dependent or independent.
This will be fixed in the next release. For the time being a workaround could be to temporarily create an empty annotation at the beginning of the media, on all tiers you wish to export (annoying as this may be).

Re: Exporting as Praat TextGrid
Well, just a little comment: it doesn't occur on all tiers where the first annotation does not start at time point 0. In my case there was no problem with the upper level but the first annotation doesn't start at time point 0 even at that level. Maybe this will help with fixing this bug. <br>
Re: Re: Exporting as Praat TextGrid
Oh no, I am sorry. You are also writing "for any tier after the first one", that's why it doesn't occur on the upper tier in my case. Thank you!
