elan files on external drives
Hi - a new user question...I like to keep my AV recordings and media projects on an external drive and work over firewire. When I go to open a file from within Elan, I am unable to navigate outside of the directory structure on the computer (ie. Macintosh hardrive is at the top of the tree). Is there I way I can access media from an external drive, or do I need to copy it to a local directory? Thanks, Marg C.
Re: elan files on external drives
Go all the way to the top of the hierarchy, which is “Macintosh HD” or whatever you might have renamed it to. Scroll down to the bottom. There should be a directory called “Volumes”. Mac OS X mounts all drives (CD-ROMs, external hard drives, etc.) into this folder, but the normal user interface hides this fact of Unix life, just as it hides the /usr and /var directories for example. This is the same place to look for mounted drives if you’re using the shell (Unix command line).
