Exported tab delimited text in 3.9.0 lacks CR

Posted by woodbury at 2010-07-01 23:46

In ELAN 3.9.0, when you Export As Tab Delimited Text and you select NONE of the four output options that are offered, no carriage return is inserted before each Tier name. (Only a Tab is inserted, so that the whole file contains just a single CR at the very end).

In earlier versions--I'm not sure HOW early--a CR was inserted in that instance.

For what it's worth--I liked the CR because it allowed me to have each tier-contribution on its own line for further processing. Now, I find myself reinstating the CR with (sometimes laborious) search-and-replace.

It's no big deal really--but it would be nice if future versions of ELAN allowed you the CR in this instance. (Unless I'm missing something!!)

Many thanks,
Tony Woodbury
I can reproduce the problem. It is a bug that seems to be introduced by the new option in ELAN 3.9 to exclude the tier names. Most unfortunate. Effectively, you can now either export without the tier names or with the "separate column per tier" option.
This will be fixed in the next release.

The lack of CR in the output broke our analysis scripts (we use a relational database built in ACI 4D to process the ELAN output). For the time being we are working around the problem by coding in ELAN 3.9, then opening the file in ELAN 3.6 to export it with CRs.

- Mike
