Video issues with transcribing

Posted by jannap at 2010-05-19 15:46

So for one of our projects we transcribe using only .mpg videos with no additional .wav files. We had issues with this because we were missing a codec but we fixed that and everything was working fine, but lately when we just use video the video syncs weird when we transcribe. Starting the video in the beginning is fine but as soon as you pause the video, transcribe and continue the video, the video doesn't start where you stopped. Instead it goes back a few seconds, making it impossible to transcribe. Has anyone else had this issue or knows how to fix it? Thanks!

Could it be that "lately" new software has been installed that contained or installed new media codecs? The problem description points in the direction of a codec that doesn't support frame accurate media cursor positioning.
You can check which codec is used in the log file, after closing ELAN. The logfile can be found in <user_home>\.elan_data\elan0.log (or elan1.log etc.).
