Im using the latest version of Elan for the Mac (10.6). when I try to export a traditional transcript text or interlinear text file, it is saved as an invisible file. I can see it in elan, but not in my finder, or in a textprocessor even when I turn on the invisibility filter. How can I render these files visible?

I do not quite understand. I don't have a 10.6 system myself, but I guess making a file invisible works the same as in earlier versions? E.g. if a file name starts with a "." it is invisible in the Finder.
So, could it be in the naming of the file?
