Crackly sounding audio

Posted by nychriss at 2010-03-11 12:54

Hi,

We're using ELAN to annotate files for sociolinguistic data. For some reason, on a PC with Windows XP. The files are in the correct folder and everything, but they do not play correctly - they are extremely crackly sounding and basically unintelligible. This doesn't appear to be a problem with the sound files themselves, as they play perfectly clearly in other media players. It must have something to do with the settings in Elan.

Any ideas?

Difficult, could it be a codec problem? You could have a look at the "filters" that are used for the media in the log file (as described here). If the files are audio only you could try to switch to another e.g. JMF player via Edit->Preferences->Edit Preferences->Platform/OS tab and see if this works better. -Han
