Java crashes when creating a new file.
I am running ELAN 3.8.1 on Windows Vista SP2 with the latest version of JAVA (6 Update 17) and the latest version of quicktime installed.<br><br>Problem: When I go to New and select an mp4 for import I get "Java 2 Platform Standard Edition binary has stopped working. A problem has caused...."<br><br><br>I installed quicktime, restarted, then uninstalled ELAN and removed the program files folder, restarted, then reinstalled ELAN from a fresh download after clearing my browser cache, restarted, and I still have this issue.<br><br>I have also tried copying the entire program folder from a computer where the same files do not cause this issue including the jre folder and still have the same error. The error never changes and is consistent.<br><br>I have the same issue on another desktop running Windows 7, the computer that has the working ELAN program is running XP Pro SP3.<br><br>I have also tried running ELAN via the batch files with the same exact issue.<br><br>Any help or diagnoses hints would be greatly appreciated!<br><br>-Robert<br>
Re: Java crashes when creating a new file.
Difficult to explain. An ELAN installation includes a Java Runtime Environment, did you replace that one? Did you try an installed (not copied) ELAN with the original JRE?
Did you try the installed ELAN with a regular mpeg-1 file, any problems in that case? Any information in the ELAN log file (see previous post) after the crash?

Re: Re: Re: Java crashes when creating a new file.
The log is in user_home\.elan_data and is named elan0.log (or elan1.log etc. look at the timestamp). At the end of the file there might be a listing of "filters" followed by an error message.
