Problem in Japanese input (3.8.1)

Posted by take at 2009-11-24 07:10

When I used 3.7.2, I had no problem in inputting Japanese text into a edit box on an annotation. But after upgrading ELAN to 3.8.1, I can not choose the Japanese character set by clicking right button in the edit box. Other Asian languages, Chinese and Korean, work fine.
My platform is MacOS 10.5.8 on Intel Mac. The same happens on 10.6.2 as well.
Is this a bug or am I missing something? Any suggestion?

(sorry for the delay)
I'm afraid I don't quite understand the situation. As fas as I know Japanese has never been one of the languages available in the right mouse button list of languages? In that respect nothing can have changed between 3.7.2 and 3.8.1?
If you make the input menu visible in the main menu bar (via the "International" system preferences panel) is there any change in the selected language once you activate an edit box?

Thanks for your reply. I understand ELAN is unicode-based system, thus, there should be no problem. Actually I could input Japanese characters as annotation labels in the edit box. But occasionally, I fall into a situation where every character is input as is, meaning in Roman alphabet, even though the Japanese IME is on. I tried several IMEs other than the MacOS original, but no change once I get to this situation. I can not imagine what triggers this situation.
