initializing.....

Posted by mtutton at 2009-11-15 13:31

Hello,
I have been using Elan for two years now, and a couple of days ago I started experiencing a problem. When I go to open an Elan file, it starts initializing.... and then doesn't progress. It just remains in the initializing phase, and the file doesn't open. I thought that my version of Elan was perhaps too old, so I downloaded the new version 3.8 of Elan, but I still have this same problem. Could you please offer me any advice on how to fix this problem?
I saw that someone else in the forum also had an 'initializing' problem, but didn't see that any written advice on how to fix it.
Many thanks in advance,
Mark
When opening a file stops in the initializing phase, this is usually due to a (unreported) problem with the media player.
You can check this in the logfile: try to open the file until it stop in initializing, exit ELAN, check the log file for error messages at the end. The log file is in <user_home>\.elan_data\elan0.log or, on the Mac, <user_home>/Library/Preferences/ELAN/elan0.log.

I'm having the same problem, but I'm afraid that I don't understand where to find the log file. Is it in one of the files that appeared when I downloaded the program?

Thanks.
