Elan on Windows 7 professional 64 bits
I am running the new OS Windows 7 professional (64bits). Elan 3.8 seem to be installed without any trouble. Yet I can't open anymore my eaf files (it have trouble to initialize) and Elan shut down when I create a new file. Is it planned to support Elan on Windows 7 ?
Re: Elan on Windows 7 professional 64 bits
ELAN hasn't been tested yet on Windows 7, but yes, it is the intention to have a Windows 7 ready ELAN version.
It would be helpful if you could post the log file here.
After trying to open a file, exit ELAN. The log file can be found here:
<user_home>\.elan_data\elan0.log
Could also be elan1.log etc., check the timestamp to find the right one.
I assume accessing the media player framework will be the problem, there might be a 32 vs. 64 bits issue. The log could tell.

Re: Re: Elan on Windows 7 professional 64 bits
First about the log: I don't see any messages about a file being opened. The most interesting part, in this case, would be the listing of codecs that are installed and the codecs that are actually used. This information will be in the log if you launch ELAN, open an eaf file, play a bit and then Exit the application.
From your follow up message (and some information that I received from others), I understand that ELAN does actually work on Windows 7, including media playback, but that there are (new) issues with codecs and the like. We just have to figure out what we can do about that. Using .vob files directly in ELAN hasn't been unproblematic in previous Windows releases either. What we at least will try to achieve, is to get MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 running seamlessly.

Re: Re: Re: Elan on Windows 7 professional 64 bits
Hi, I have the same problem. Any updates?
I'm running ELAN 3.9.0 on 64bit Windows 7 pro.
Whenever I open or create a file, something (probably JAVA) hangs up.
I tried re-installation but nothing changes.
Other items, such as preference menu works when files are not opened.
Here is the log file (I guess this doesn't contain relevant information).

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Elan on Windows 7 professional 64 bits
I am sorry for submitting awful post. Let me post it again.
Hi, I have exactly the same problem.
Is there anyone who solves the problem? An error log of JAVA named "hs_err_pidxxxx.log"(xxxx=pid number) is generated on the same directory of ELAN.exe when ELAN hangs up.
