no IPA support for some Mac Users
Several people share a computer and use different accounts.
We are using ELAN 3.8.0 on an iMac with OS X 10.5.8 to annotate .wav files.

From some user accounts, we are able to create IPA transcriptions by choosing "IPA-96 (RTR)" or "IPA-96 (Sampa)" as the Default Language for the relevant tiers. Everything works fine. However, for other users, logging in to the Mac with a different account, everything works in ELAN except that, even with "IPA-96 (RTR)" or "IPA-96 (Sampa)" selected as the Default Language for a tier, we cannot create IPA characters. No keyboard or RTR menu pops up. Could you help me figure out why?

I wonder if some particular add-on element that controls these IPA features needs to be installed at a different level on the Mac. ELAN and the IPA fonts (from http://www.phon.ucl.ac.uk/home/wells/fonts.htm) are installed at the highest level. That is:

iMac > Applications > ELAN folder > ELAN 3.8.0
iMac > Library > Fonts > .TTF fonts

Thanks,
Naomi Nagy
Re: no IPA support for some Mac Users
The ELAN installer copies some libraries (.jar files) to <user>/Library/Java/Extensions. These are necessary for the input methods.
The libraries can be found in the "ext" folder in the ELAN install folder. Copy those to the "/Library/Java/Extensions" folders of all users that use ELAN. That should do.
