trouble moving playinghead

Posted by sesch at 2009-09-11 21:03

I'm using ELAN 3.8.0 on a MacBook Pro running 10.4.11

I’m having an intermittent problem with the crosshair not moving properly. Currently I can’t use the “pixel” forward but can use the “pixel” backwards, “Frame” forward and backwards doesn’t work sometimes. Sometimes it depends on what zoom level I have the timeline at. When it’s at 100 I can usually use the “pixel” keys but not the “frame”. When I get to 1000 zoom I lose the “pixel” forward. I haven’t always had this problem since using this version of ELAN on this machine. In fact at the beginning of the week they all worked fine for awhile. It doesn’t seem file related but I’m not sure about that. Thanks.

Hi there. I posted about this a few threads back, and then the problem went away with a version change, and now it's back in 3.8.0.

If you're not yet married to the new functionalities in 3.8.0 and you're lucky like me, a downgrade to 3.7.2-1 will allow you to navigate normally through your files until this gets resolved.

Hi Kyle,

Unfortunately my problems must be different then the one you experienced because using the older version 3.7.2-1 of ELAN didn't help me. I can move the crosshair by seconds and pixels but not by frames frontwards or backwards.

Thanks for you reply,
Sandy

ELAN 3.8.0 makes it easier to switch between media frameworks via Edit->Edit Preferences->Platform. Can you report which framework is used (Cocoa QT or QuickTime for Java) and whether switching has any effect?
Also, after unsuccessful usage of e.g. the pixel/frame forward button there may be messages in the log file (<user_home>/Library/Preferences/ELAN/elan0.log), you might want to post them here?
