Problem Importing Praat Annotations

Posted by annie2il at 2009-08-18 11:25

Hi everybody,

I have a question regarding importing TextGrid files from Praat:
When I open a new file and chose a .wav file, and later go to File--> Import --> Praat TextGrid file, the actual tiers get imported to Elan, but the intervals made by Praat are not. It appears as if the entire tier is one big interval.
Another issue is that when I open an .eaf file that I've created before, where the annotations did get imported successfully, again - there are no intervals marked on the tier.

Please help :)

Thanks,
Anna

When importing the Praat file, are there no annotations on the tiers, or just one? In the first case; are you sure you have selected the right encoding for the TextGrid file? Please try all available encoding options to check if it's not a file encoding matter.
The second problem is even stranger: if I understand it correctly you have annotations on tiers in ELAN, you save the whole as an eaf file and when you reopen it the annotations are gone? That is strange, I cannot explain that. Could you send me one of your Praat and one of the eaf files, for testing (han.sloetjes AT mpi.nl)?
