HD
Hello,
I have captured sign language on film with an HD camera that saves one film in folders on an SD-card. To capture the video from the camera, I have used the software of the camera (which was the only one that worked at that time). I then converted the videos to MPEG-2. When using those in ELAN, however, I get the 16:9 video in its proper shape, which is what I'd want. But there seems some buffering going on at the start of playing the movie (clip plays jerkily, not smooth). As the first seconds don't contain any data, this is fine. But this also happens when using the media control buttons. So trying to select one sign results in selecting half of it, or even two of them, as the start and end point are not clearly visible in the film. Do you maybe know what I can do to solve this?
Or, the other way around: I have now found another program to capture the film from the camera, and I tried those clips. The AVI-files play smoothly, but the size of the clip is distorted, so the people in the clip look a bit squeezed. This doesn't happen in a media player. Is it possible to adjust clip size in ELAN?
Re: HD
I have a similar problem:
For a new project we have now videos in avi-format in 16:9 (1024 x 576). In ELAN, the videos are squeezed vertically (or stretched horizontally). Is there anything we can change so that the avi-files are displayed correctly in ELAN?

Re: Re: HD
ELAN uses the aspect ratio information provided by the player to calculate width and height for a video. It always maintains the aspect ratio, regardless of the media file type. I therefore cannot explain the difference between the MPEG-2 and the AVI version of the same recording. There is some ambiguity in the values for width, height and aspect ratio (there sometimes is also is a "pixel aspect ratio") that can lead to different interpretations of the same file. There is no way that the user can change this value within ELAN.
Using MPEG-2 with proper encoding settings in combination with a good MPEG-2 codec (e.g. Elecard MPEG-2 plugin) might be an alternative.

Re: Re: Re: HD
PS. it is likely that this is about "anamorphic" avi files, at least I can reproduce the effect with an anamorphic avi file. Apparently the player does not recognize the pixel aspect ratio (the pixels are not square), where Windows Media Player does recognize this. At the moment I don't know how to solve this.
