ELAN 3.7.2. Mac 10.5.6 won't install, Mac 10.4.11 crashes on new or open file
I'm a new user and hoping to use ELAN. I've downloaded it on two machines. On the Powerbook running OS 10.5.6 the installer gives errors - and doesn't install the program. On the Intel Dual-Core running 10.4.11 the program installs, and starts up, but any attempt to open a file view New or Open starts initializing, then crashes. All regular software upgrades installed for these systems (Java up to date, etc). Any help to get me off the ground would be appreciated. Thanks.
The following post answered part of the problem. Specifically, by making the QT change specified below, I was able to get ELAN running in 10.4.11 - I can open the example file from the ELAN download site, and can create new files from .wav, but .mov still crashes.
http://www.lat-mpi.eu/tools/elan/elanforum/simpleforumpost.2009-04-07.5053039867

However, installer still not working on the powerbook. Installer log has ERROR "no such file or directory" for the app.

Thanks.
About the 10.4.11 system: after changing to the "QT" variant a (traditional) QuickTime for Java based player is used. There are a few known situations in which crashes can occur: when trying to detach/attach a video, when changing the linked media files (via Edit -> Linked Files) or when saving the video frame as image. I don't recall reports on crashes when creating a new document using .mov file. Normally QuickTime has less problems with .mov than with mpeg files. Is this a self-contained .mov file? Are there maybe error messages in the log file (<User>/Library/Preferences/ELAN/elan0.log) after a crash?

About the PowerBook: is this a PowerPC mac? Anymore information from the installer log or the crash report? The mentioned ERROR "no such file or directory" seems to indicate that the application's folder could not be created. Were you trying to install in the default folder or somewhere else?
The installer has been tested on 10.4 and 10.5, PowerPC and Intel systems and so far seemed to work. Would be interesting to know what exactly goes wrong.
