cannot extract 3.7.2 on Windows XP

Posted by jguibour at 2009-04-21 09:24

Hi,

i'm having problems downloading the latest version of Elan. i can download the .exe file to self extract but when i start extracting a window called "install anywhere" is asking to choose another folder for the files to extract. i did so by browsing/choosing different folders but the window still appear and the extraction is stopped immediately. i tried older versions but same problem occured. the webstart isn't working. i tried to zip and unzip the .exe file... the only version that works is the 2.6.3 downloaded a year ago.

i have probably miss something important but i don't know what.does anybody have a solution?

Thank you.

Julien

I never had to choose a folder for extracting the setup files, it seems to be an indication that something in the system is not as expected. I believe that normally the installer extracts files to C:\tmp. Could it be this folder does not exist or is read-only? Could it be that there is too little free disc space?

I'm having the same problem. I attempted to create a file C:\tmp myself but it didn't help the installer to find a folder to extract to. If anyone knows the solution to this installation problem, I'd appreciate if you could share it with me. Thanks. Chris.
Discovered that a corrupted download was the cause for the "please select another location to extract the installer to" message, even though the download appeared to be fine.

See http://danny-t.co.uk/index.php/2006/07/04/installanywhere-please-select-another-location-to-extract-the-installer-to/
