Video/audio sychrony problem

Posted by flipmann at 2008-10-24 21:05

Hello,

I am having a few problems with video/audio synchrony in ELAN version 3.6.0 on a PC. When I play the video in the ELAN interface, the audio is about a second ahead of the video. The speech in the video had previously been transcribed in ELAN on a Mac, so the existing annotations are still aligned with the audio, but strangely, when I click on one, such that it is highlighted, and then click 'play selection,' the interval of video played is that of the annotation plus an additional second or so. The video/audio offset of small selections is not as bad as that of the video played from the beginning, but it is still great enough that annotation is difficult.

Any thoughts are much appreciated.

Do you have separate audio and video files linked to the transcription? And which one is listed first?
Any special encoding used or codec installed on the PC?

I've been having a similar problem. I have two video files (.dv) and one audio file (.wav) which was extracted from one of the video files. I set the synchronisation but when I go back to the annotation mode and press play there is a delay in one of the video starts - thus only one video is synchronised with the audio. The video which lags changes depending on what file is set as the master file. I've tried running the project in 3.4.0 and have the same problem.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
Sorry, I would just like to make an amendment to my previous post. There is actually a delay for one of the videos and the audio. These are synchronised. The same things happens in both annotation and synchronisation mode. My operating system in OSX 10.4.11.

Thanks!
