AVI-files?

Posted by rolfph at 2008-10-13 18:49

Hello!

I’m using Elan for sign language annotation. Elan is my favourite for that purpose. Thank You. But I have not found the best type of file to use. I have been using AVI-DV-2-file, bitrates 352 kbps with great success. With other bitrates I have to open the file two times before it goes almost nice. Is this normal? Or do I have to change the bitrates, and how can I do that?

Greetings from Rolf Halvorsen in Trondheim

Is this on Windows or Mac OS?
Anyway, it is always hard to recommend a file type or encoding. Mpeg-1 is the most common and probably the least problematic format. But it has of course lower quality. Mpeg-2 is much better but has all kinds of codec issues.

Thank You. I’m using Windows. I have tried different file types. The best quality for non manual features is AVI. Or I have not found the best version of Mpeg-1 or Mpeg-2 for my purpose. Do you know the best options values for Mpeg-1 and Mpeg-2?

I'm not an expert in this area at all, but you might find some useful information on video encoding in the Audio/Video section of this web page: www.mpi.nl/corpus/a4guides/ -Han
