Neverending Initializing... even after following the steps here discussed...

Hi!
ELAN is not working for importing videos in my computer anymore... Any clues?

I've tried everything that was said in other posts here published: install an old version of Quicktime and then ELAN; installing an old version of ELAN; and I also tried to uninstall Quicktime, considering that the videos I analyse have the extension .wmv and run well in Windows Media Player. But nothing works. If I maintain Quicktime (older or new version), the message is: "No played could be created for the file...". If I uninstall Quicktime, Initializing is there forever.

I've also tried to copy and paste the files QTJava.zip and the others suggested in one post here in ELAN folders, but it didn't work either. Would you have any ideas how I can solve this problem? The only way I have to work with my data is through ELAN, and it's been impossible to do that the last days...
Thank you a lot,
Janaisa

I assume this is on Windows? Anyway, I don't think the problem has anything to do with QuickTime. If the file is a .wmv file it has to be played by the player that is based on Windows Media Player, the native media player. This is the default for ELAN on Windows. If this player cannot handle the file QuickTime and JMF are tried. I believe neither QT nor JMF can handle .wmv files.
Maybe an installed codec is in the way?
We'll probably have to look at the messages in the log file. Try to open a file in ELAN and when it fails to show the video, quit ELAN. Then look in <user_home>\.elan_data\elan0.log for messages. You may post them here or send them to me by email.
