Why does ELAN create so many files for each project? What are the pfsx files?

The .pfsx files contain user preferences information such as tier order, hidden tiers, preferred fonts, selected tab, selected tier per tab, selected time segment etc. Anything necessary to be able to open the ELAN window as it was when it was closed. There is also a global pfsx file storing e.g. the most recently used directory for new transcriptions or for exporting text etc.
EAF is meant to be an archival document format that should not contain this kind of (temporary) user preferences.
