Problems using Selection mode
I hope you can help my work out why I am having problems with such a basic process- I am having recurring problems with selection mode in v3.5. To put it succinctly, I can't make selections, even when the selection mode tool is selected.

I am using version 3.5 on a Macbook Pro running 10.5.3. I'm not doing anything all that complicated- simply annotating .wav files. I seem to be able to get the tool to work sporadically by restarting the application. I have uninstalled 3.5, then reinstalled it, and the tool will work for a few annotations, and then cease. The last resort solution of restarting the mac didn't help either.

I am sure that the solution is very simple, but I cannot see it!

Looking forward to some wisdom :) dwong
Re: Problems using Selection mode
There is one particular situation where a selection is not always created or updated: when a dependent tier is the "active tier" (reddish background color) and (part of) the selection is in an area where there is no annotation on the parent tier of the active tier. This is because it is not possible to create an annotation on a depending tier otherwise then within the boundaries of an annotation on the parent.
If the active tier is a top level tier (tier without a parent) it should always be possible to create and change a selection. Dragging with the mouse should always work, whether in Selection mode or not. In Selection mode all forward / backward buttons should change the current selection in such case.
Best way to test is probably by creating a new transcription file with one of your audio files and with only a single tier. Put the crosshair somewhere, activate Selection Mode and press e.g. some of the forward buttons and see if the selection is being updated.
