using video directly from CD

Posted by uriptoningrum at 2007-11-12 13:34

Hi,

We tried once to write transcription using video running on CD ROM, not from hard disk. We use version 3.2.0; video is in wmv files. In the beginning it seemed okey, but in the middle we noticed once when the tier and the video was not playing synchronously. It's a bit confusing since we are beginners with ELAN. Is playing video directly from CD ROM not recommended? Manytimes I used video from the network and it works just fine.

Cheers,
Upiek

Apart from knowing that it is technically possible to run the video from CD, I could make no statements about this. Intuitively I expect that response time, media positioning and playback accuracy will be less as compared to running from a hard disc. Even with the high speed hardware of today.
It'll probably be good enough for viewing purposes, but for the annotation creation process I would recommend to copy the file(s) to the hard disc.
