Importing tab-delimited text files

Posted by JLehman at 2012-01-13 15:15

Hi,

I am trying to compare two annotators' codings by exporting one's tiers as tab-delimited text and then importing that into the other's .eaf file. I use File>Import>csv/tab-delimited text... and get the dialog box but when I choose the file and click ok, no new tiers appear.

I am using Elan 3.9.1 at the moment running under Windows XP (although I have had the same problem on a different machine with 4.1.2).

Any ideas what's going wrong? Is there some other method for doing what I'm trying to do? I have ~100 tab-delimited files and would rather not have to export every file again in another format, if possible, but if that's what it takes...

Thanks.
Hi,
I am using Elan 3.9.1 at the moment running under Windows XP (although I have had the same problem on a different machine with 4.1.2).

Any ideas what's going wrong? Is there some other method for doing what I'm trying to do? I have ~100 tab-delimited files and would rather not have to export every file again in another format, if possible, but if that's what it takes...

Thanks.
Hi JLehman, When you import a tab-deliminated text file, a new Elan file is created with the tiers in the '.txt' file. Importing a '.txt' file doesn't import the its tiers to the currently opened elan file. For comparing two annotators, you can also merge the two transcriptions, by selecting the required tiers from the files and merge them to a new elan file and you can use this newly merged file to compare the annotators. -Aarthy.
