Freezing Audio/Video

Posted by Randall at 2011-12-29 16:04

Hello, I'm hoping for some guidance solving a crashing problem I'm having recently.
I'm running Elan 4.1.2., Quicktime 7.7.1., Windows 7 x64, and WAV files.
In Annotation Mode, when I play the audio/video, the video lags behind the audio if I leave the playback going for a few seconds. With some files, the audio and video will sync up when I pause, but will not with others. When the audio gets too far ahead of the video and I hit pause, the audio keeps playing, the video becomes very choppy, the controls turn black, and the whole program starts to freeze. If I minimize Elan, I can't maximize it and have to force it to close before I can try again. This problem happens faster if I have the video enlarged and am zoomed on the time scale. If I pause/unpause every second or so of playback, Elan doesn't freeze as much, but it still does.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.

Hello, it is difficult to tell what causes this behavior.
Could you provide some more information about your typical setup? E.g. if you have one audio and one video file linked, which one will be the first, the leading one (as shown in the table vie Edit->Linked Files...)? Do you use QuickTime specific files, by the way? And to be sure: if you say that the video lags behind with the audio, are you referring to the sound you hear or to the visualization of the audio in the Signal Viewer?
That sort of information might help.
