How do I insert free anotations next to a CV one?

Posted by dsjadue at 2011-10-06 16:24

I have created a CV for each of my tiers, but now I can't keep on writing after I have inserted the CV. I need to do both things at the same time. For example, I have a tier named "Classroom" which has 5 different codes for the CV I created for it. What I want to do is to pick one of those 5 codes and then next to it transcribe the dialogue in the video. In the same selection of time & in the same tier. Is that possible?
Thanks!
You can enter free text in annotations on a tier that is linked to a CV by holding down the shift key when double clicking an annotation. The standard text edit box appears in that case, instead of the list of the CV.

That's the technical side of it. An other question is whether this is the best possible approach. An alternative would be to create two tiers where you now have one: one (parent) tier for the spoken dialogue and one (dependent) tier for the CV code (or vice versa). That way you keep the different types of annotations, the different types of information, separated. Keeping things separated might turn out advantageous later on when executing search queries, when creating statistics etc.
But that choice is of course up to the user.
