Change the template

Posted by Audrey at 2011-09-12 11:34

Hi,

I'm a new user of ELAN and I have a problem.
I have created my template (Template1) and next I have transcribed.
Then I would like to modify my template (Template2). To do it I have modified my original template and I have saved my new template (Template2.etf).
Now I want to open my ELAN files (my transcriptions .eaf) with this new template (Template 2).
But I can't!
What is the solution?

Thanks a lot
I hope someone has an easy solution ;-)

Audrey
when a transcription file is created with a template, the contents of the template is "copied" to the new transcription file. A reference to that template is not stored; any (later) changes to the template are not automatically applied to the transcription files. You can import new tiers from the template to a transcription file Tier->Import Tiers... and select the new/modified template. New CV's and the linguistic types might have to be imported separately if they are not referenced by the new tiers.

We have plans to change this in future such that a reference to the template is stored in the transcription, so that transcription files can be updated automatically after a change in the template.

Ok thanks a lot. I have already added new tiers with the option "import a new tier"... It is a little bit boring (because I have to open each file -- and I have a lot of files) but it is possible to do it and that's the main thing. Thanks for your answer, Audrey
