another neverending initialization
I'm working with data I already have in FLEx, importing the .xml for ELAN along with my .wav audio files. I've had no problem with that until I tried to save myself some time and import a template (and I just tried wtih these specific two files just in case they were corrupted--they load just fine without the template). Can I not use a template with my FLEx files?

In short: no it is not possible to use a template when importing a FLEx file.
I do not exactly understand what you tried: if ELAN hangs while "Initializing..." I would guess that you tried to use a template file instead of a wav. file?
Anyway a template file instead a FLEx file won't work either; these are just two completely different types of files. How would you like to use a template in combination with a FLEx file? The structure of a FLEx file (the "tier" names) is more or less fixed; should a template provide alternative tiernames instead of the automatically created tier names, or something else?
