child tiers

Posted by mshi at 2011-06-14 17:41

I have created 3 dependent tiers on the one child tier of transcriptions, but the problem is the child tiers are not displayed the way as the parent tier which is all segmented into intervals and with alt+right one can jump to the next annotation. It's a lot of trouble that the child tiers, although segmented the same way, have no visible boundary lines, and I have to double click on the segment everytime I want to code it. Is there a way to make the child tiers display all the lines the same way as the parent tier so that I can use the shortcut keys to go forward or backward easily. Thank you.

I'm not quite sure if I correctly understand the situation, but if you say there are no visible boundary lines, it seems there are no annotations yet on the dependent tier. Double clicking creates the annotation, as you mention. What you can do is go to Tier->Create Annotations on Dependent Tiers..., select the parent tier and let the program create empty annotations on all dependent tiers. On some types of dependent tiers the annotations are painted in yellow/orange.

Thank you, that worked! Now the segmentations on dependent tiers all look the same as the parent tier. I made a mistake by saying child tier instead of parent tier in my first sentence, sorry to confuse you.
