prob with wav.form/video alignement
Good morning,
I need to transcribe MPEG2 wideos with ELAN. My MPEG2s come from MTS files that I convert with AVS. After this, I extract a .wav file using Avidemux. The duration of the .wav file is correct, i.e. it matches the duration of the video file. The video and the .wav file open and play correctly in ELAN. However, there is a slight mismatch in the time alignement of the video (picture+sound) and the .wav form. The mismatch is about 0.35sec for a 43 min file, and less, it seems, for a smaller file.
I do not master the "synchronisation" functions in ELAN, and I'm not even sure whether they relate to my problem.
With many thanks for your answer and best regards,
Maïa Ponsonnet

(not an answer but an extra detail:)
In fact there seems to be an equivalent blank in the wav form at the end of the file, as if the wav had indeed shifted to the left of the time scale compared to the video.
Re: Re: prob with wav.form/video alignement
Given your problem description it seems evident that transcoding and extraction have not been performed very accurately by the applications mentioned.
There are now a few possibilities to fix the alignment:
- do it all again with other applications
- clip the first 0.35 sec off the video
- in ELAN use the synchronisation mode, select the video "player", navigate to position 0.35 sec and apply the "offset"
