Audio problem with hp netbook

Posted by naty at 2010-10-02 12:08

Hello,

I am trying to work with Elan on an hp netbook and the problem is the following:

Both video and template are combined after I choose them from File>New, but after this the video works perfectly but there is no sound coming out of the speakers. The Audio recognizer of Elan gives only the option of "SILENCE RECOGNIZER MPI-PL". The speakers of the netbook are working and the audio system that it uses is IDT High Definition Audio CODEC.

Any immediate help welcomed!

Naty

Hi, which operating system do you use exactly? A certain version of Windows maybe? It could be that your audio is just directed to the wrong output, e.g. headphone instead of speaker, do other media players outside ELAN work correctly? If you use Linux, there might also be a conflict in whether or not to use pulseaudio / esd.

Hi,

Thanks for the response. I am actually using Windows 7 on an HP Vivienne Tam netbook. How can I change the audio outgoing to set it to my netbook's audio system? Because it seems that Elan automatically sets the 'Silence' one and does not provide me with any other options on the Audio Recognizer section. Have you heard of any similar problems with Windows 7?

Thank you,

Natalia

I don't think it is a general Windows 7 problem. And the Audio Recognizer has actually nothing to do with whether you hear sound or not.

There could be a media codec problem? You can check the codecs/filters in use for a media file in the ELAN log file. After trying to play a media file in ELAN, exit ELAN and open the log file in a text editor. The log file is located:
<user_home>\.elan_data\elan0.log (or elan1.log etc. look at the timestamp). Somewhere near the end of the file there is a listing of filters in the filter chain. Maybe the list of filters shows that there is no connection to the sound device?
