I cannot find clues in the log that lead to an explanation of the faulty behaviour. The only thing that seems a bit strange is that there are only two "filters" in the DirectShow "filter chain": the first one being the mp3 file reader, the second one the Sound Device. But maybe that's not unusual, it might depend on the available filters and their capacities.
Here is how the filter chain looks on my system when playing an mp3 file:
