Hello, I have just installed ELAN in Ubuntu 8.04, everything seemed to work fine in the instalation but now I can't open any file, I tried with mpg, avi, dv and mp3 and after initializing a sign appears saying: "No player could be created for (and the name of the file)"
Any idea of how to solve this. I am really interested in using ELAN.

This seems to be the same problem as described in the preceding post (Problem to read file on Linux). I added some hints for a solution there.
If you run ELAN from the command line you'll probably see some more detailed error messages. These can be helpful when trying to solve the problem.
