Currently, for Linux we have only one option for media handling, which is JMF (Java Media Framework). It is installed with the ELAN distribution and the installer tries to setup the environment. JMF requires a variable "LD_LIBRARY_PATH" to be set. If this fails, no media file can be handled, whatever its type.

You could try running ELAN from the command line using a startup script in /bin and try to get it working by editing this script.
Others have reported similar problems and you might search for a clue in previous posts?

I believe (an older version of) fobs4jmf is included in the ELAN distribution. Was this message "Fobs4JMF - Native shared library NOT found" already there before you manually installed Fobs4JMF? And, by the way, did you install the ELAN version with or without JRE?

Is there a Fobs related file in the "jmf__Vlin2.1.1fcs" folder, something like "libfobs4jmf.so"? And does it help if you copy/paste this file to jre/bin?
