filter tier - which destination tier?

Posted by Kitty at 2009-10-15 12:22

Hi,
We are trying to remove (or preserve) all annotations with a specific tag on a specific tier. For this, we would like to use Filter Tier. The problem is that we cannot select a Destination Tier. Even after we have created a new tier (by selecting Create New Tier...), we cannot select the newly created tier. In fact, we cannot select any existing tier. The only thing we see is a dash "-". So Elan starts complaining, but we cannot select a valid destination tier. How can we select a destination tier in "Filter Tier"? Thanks in advance!

Yes, the Filter Tier function has currently the, maybe unnecessary, limitation that the destination tier should be a child tier of type Symbolic Association. Therefore, you have to define a Linguistic Type with Stereotype Symbolic Association and create a dependent tier (a child tier of the source tier for the filter action) with this type. Then it will appear in the list. If you wish you can "reparent" the tier after the filter action (e.g. if you want it to be an independent tier).
