Here are the parameters that are currently called when clipping a video:

M2-edit-cl /in: xxx /out: yyy inputfilename outputfilename

where "xxx" is the video frame number of the begin of the selection and "yyy" the frame number of the end (so not milliseconds).

When M2-edit-cl fails the executable M2-xcode-cl is tried.

The above command is called from a Java process and the return value of that process is checked: 0 = OK.
When an ELAN window is created, the command M2-edit-cl is called once and if any exception occurs the menu item is disabled.

We have been thinking about a Preferences panel in which the ELAN user can specify the command that should be used when clipping a file. With some "placeholders" for parameters like input- and output file and begin and end time.
Problem could be that not all of those kind of tools require or support the same parameters. We haven't actively compared the available (free) tools yet. If anyone can provide this kind of information for the tools he/she knowns, that would be appreciated. Just post it here.
