problems with .svg-files
I cannot open my ELAN-files (.eaf) - the program does not stop "initializing" - unless I delete the .svg-file bevor starting. In this case everything works fine. I know that these are Scalable Vector Graphics, but I do not quite understand their role in the annotation-context.
What does the svg-file in ELAN do, is it necessary and can I hinder ELAN fron creating it since it obviously interferes with the data-processing ??
It is also strange that some of my old ELAN-files obviously do not create an svg.-file, when I work with them.
I kind of remember having this problem when I last used ELAN, but do not know how I solved it then - maybe I just deleted the svg-files everytime I worked with my transcripts...
Thanks for your help,
Johannes
Re: problems with .svg-files
The svg files have been used (experimentally) to store 2D annotations: simple graphical objects (rectangles, ellipses etc) on top of the video. It has never been documented. Thechnically there has been an implementation in QuickTime and one in JMF, both problematic.
I think the .svg file is created when ticking the "References to Graphics Allowed" in the New/Change Linguistic Type window.
Make sure this checkbox is always deselected. After deleting the .svg file and opening the eaf, check if there is no link to it in Edit->Linked Files->Secondary Linked Files. If there is a link, remove it and maybe check your Linguistic Types to make sure none allows references to graphics.
