Capturing ELAN
Dear ELAN-Team,<br><br>
I'm from the linguistics department of the University of Münster
(Germany). Within the scope of one of our projects, we would like to
present some of our ELAN data on our website, but without offering the
actual files, just by integrating a recorded ELAN session as a video
file. Unfortunately, none of the programs for capturing online videos
seems to work with ELAN. No matter which program I have tried, I do always manage to get the
ELAN window recorded perfectly but the video within the window just
stays black. Do you know any way to record an ELAN session, or is it

Hi Sonja! Welcome to the board.
I just tried a little experiment with ELAN and Snapz Pro X, and I was able to capture a video of me manipulating and playing an ELAN file, and the video showed up as expected. Here's my setup:
MacBook Pro
Mac OS X 10.5.7
ELAN 3.7.2-1
Quicktime 7.6.2
Movie file: .mov format
I'm not sure how this compares to your setup. All the best with your captures.

Thanks a lot for your reply! Unfortunately, Snapz Pro X won't work for me, since I'm working with windows. My setup is:
Dell Optiplex 740
Windows XP Professional SP3
ELAN 3.7.2
Movie file: .mpg
I tried capturing the ELAN session with Hypercam, Camtasia, CamStudio20, Screen Video Recorder and Fraps, but all of them didn't work - either the video stayed black or javaw.exe collapsed an ELAN had to shut down.

Hi,
In ELAN version 3.7.2, before opening a .eaf file, uncheck 'Options > Use Native Media Platfom'. The video in ELAN is now correctly displayed in CamStudio 2 on windows XP.
In ELAN version 3.7.3 (coming soon) go to 'Edit > Preferences > Edit preferences...' and select Platform/OS in the Preferences dialog. Here you can select QuickTime for Java. This also correctly displays the ELAN video in CamStudio 2 on windows XP.
