Importing from Toolbox

Posted by bjm at 2009-03-05 20:08

When I import a text from Toolbox, all the annotations in ELAN (including the morpheme break line and gloss lines) are all in one annotation non-divided annotation. What I mean is, the morpheme breaks and glosses are not separated as subdivisions. My ideal would be to have a text line with no subdivisions, and a morpheme break and gloss lines that align by the subdivisions of individual morphemes and their respective glosses. I assume my situation is due to the fact that all of the tiers are of a "symbolic association", but I can't figure out how to adjust my .typ file to import this correctly. Any advice on this appreciated.

Also, if an annotation has no value for morpheme break or gloss, ELAN imports the tag (i.e., \mb, \ge, \gn) into the annotation. Is there any way to avoid this?

Thank you,
Brad

To get the subdivisions in the mentioned markers/tiers (when this is not automatically done using the .typ file), one should create a so called marker file (.mkr) through Set Field Markers. There it is possible to define parent-child relations and specify the type of the tiers.

The fact that for empty markers the marker name appears in the annotation, is due to a bug. This will be fixed in the next release of ELAN.
