importing time coded transcription from excel

Posted by deniz at 2009-03-04 06:21

Hi, I just began using Elan a month ago. Just wondering if it is at all possible to import an already existing transcription in Excel directly to a file in Elan (where there's a column for the time code, and another for the transcription). I imagine there would also need to be another column for the out time, but is it at all possible?
thanks :)

This can be achieved by means of File -> Import -> CSV/Tab-delimited Text File. First you will have to save/export from Excel to e.g. tab-delimited text. When you import this file in ELAN, you'll be prompted to tell the application which column contains begin time (end time, duration) and which column contains annotations. If you only have begin time information, it is possible to specify a default duration.
