We need a version of ELAN for UBUNTU!!
I cannot install Elan (.bin) on my computer (ubuntu)! I have read and tried all the solutions proposed by the members of the forum but it does not work! :'(
Solution 1 :
cd /path/to/download/location
chmod 755 ELAN_30_linux_install.bin
sudo ./ELAN_30_linux_install.bin
It seems to work but in fac it does not install anything....
solution 2 :
before running the installer do this (on the command line):
sed -i "s/export LD_ASSUME_KERNEL/#xport LD_ASSUME_KERNEL/" ELAN_30_linux_install.bin
Now run the installer.
After the installation, go to the directory where elan is installed and execute the following command:
sed -i "s/export LD_ASSUME_KERNEL/#export LD_ASSUME_KERNEL/" ELAN_3.0
It does not function....
Have you a solution for me??
What we need is : a version of elan for ubuntu ;o)

Any error messages when trying to install with solution 1?
Some people are using ELAN under Ubuntu so it can work. I tried Ubuntu in a VirtualBox on MacOS and the installation (after the chmod) worked as it should.
So, it is difficult to tell what is going wrong. I don't think we will be able to create separate install package for different Linux distributions.
What we could try, is to supply a zipped ELAN installation; ELAN should then be run from the command line.

Elan functions the sound is ok but it is impossible to see my video !!!

After installation of Ubuntu in a VirtualBox and running ELAN I get a black rectangle there where the video should be. Is that the same as what you are experiencing? I assumed this was because of the VirtualBox (I'd seen that before with a "virtual" Suse install); is it so that you have the same on an ordinary Ubuntu installation?
I'm trying to install JMF separately (to see how the included player behaves) but have had problems with the install script so far.

What version of ubuntu?, I use Festy and works perfect (with the java version that comes included, the other also works but not allow me to change window length).
In general the installation process you use seem right, so help us to post the error that shows when you run the command.
I did someting like this:
> cd / path / to / download / location
> chmod 777 ELAN_371_linux_install.bin
> ./ELAN_371_linux_install.bin
sudo is not necessary that the elan is installed just for your user and does not change any folder you do not have access.
Elan's player depends on the codecs installed for your regular player, I work whit the pac of mplayer and all de video codecs what I cant find in synaptic.
